Vernon Court Reporters is an approved transcriptionist for Pierce County Superior Court in Tacoma, Washington. We are authorized to prepare verbatim transcripts of electronically recorded court proceedings under GR 35 and RAP 9.2, the Washington State rules that govern transcripts used for appeals.

Pierce County Superior Court serves Washington’s second most populous county. It handles a large caseload including felony criminal matters, civil cases, family law, and juvenile proceedings. We are based in Tacoma and have been serving Pierce County courts for over 40 years.

An Important Note About How Pierce County Records Hearings

Pierce County uses two different recording systems depending on the courtroom, and it matters when you order a transcript.

Judge courtrooms use official in-house court reporters. If your hearing was in front of a Judge, a court reporter was present and took stenographic notes. To get a transcript of that hearing, you contact the official court reporter for that department directly. Vernon Court Reporters does not transcribe stenographic notes — that work belongs to the reporter who took them.

Commissioner courtrooms and high-volume criminal courtrooms use electronic audio recording. If your hearing was before a Commissioner, or in one of the electronically recorded criminal courtrooms, that is where we come in. Vernon is on the GR 35 approved transcriptionist list for those proceedings.

Who We Help in Pierce County

Commissioner hearings cover a large share of Pierce County’s family law, probate, and routine criminal docket. Those decisions are just as appealable as anything that happens in a Judge courtroom. We work with criminal defense attorneys appealing sentences from electronically recorded courtrooms, family law attorneys seeking review of Commissioner rulings on custody or support, civil litigants who need a certified record, and people representing themselves who need help navigating the process.

Why Choose Vernon Court Reporters

We have been serving Pierce County courts for over 40 years and are headquartered right here in Tacoma. Our transcripts meet the GR 35 standard and are formatted to RAP 9.2 requirements for appellate filing. Every transcript is verbatim and certified for official use.

Vernon is approved in more than 17 Washington Superior Courts. If your case spans multiple counties, there is a good chance we are already approved there as well.
